The Cleveland Browns’ future success could largely depend on their approach to the upcoming NFL Draft, with securing the right quarterback being a top priority.
The team is in search of a quarterback who offers more than just a strong arm—someone capable of stretching the field, delivering accurate intermediate throws, and balancing power with finesse.
Analyst Jay Crawford has recently identified a potential candidate who fits this profile.
On a recent episode of The Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show, Crawford pointed to Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart as a possible solution for the Browns. What stood out to Crawford was Dart’s impressive efficiency, particularly his strong touchdown-to-interception ratio.
“Take a look at Jaxson Dart’s stats. His touchdown-to-interception ratio is right where it needs to be—about six to one. That’s the benchmark for an elite college quarterback,” Crawford said. To emphasize Dart’s performance, he compared it to NFL star Josh Allen’s college stats, noting that Allen recorded just 16 touchdowns in his final season.
However, Crawford also raised concerns about Dart’s physical attributes. Although officially listed at 6’2″, he suspects Dart might actually measure closer to 6’1″ or shorter—an aspect that could influence his draft stock.
Since transferring from USC after his freshman year, Dart has built an impressive career at Ole Miss, culminating in a standout senior season where he led the nation with 10.8 yards per pass attempt.
Despite his success, a recurring issue in Dart’s game has been inconsistency against elite defenses, raising questions about his ability to perform at a high level against top-tier competition.
