As the New England Patriots look to rejuvenate their offense under new head coach Mike Vrabel, they may target one of the Chicago Bears’ key assets.
With the Bears assessing their roster for the 2025 season, they could consider trade offers for wide receiver D.J. Moore.
Sports Illustrated analyst Alan Goldsher suggests that the Patriots could make a bold move by acquiring Moore, who could play a crucial role in shaping an offense around their young quarterback, Drake Maye. Goldsher’s proposed trade would see New England send tight end Hunter Henry and their 2025 second-round pick (No. 38 overall) to the Bears in exchange for Moore and a 2025 seventh-round pick.
Goldsher highlights New England’s urgent need for a top-tier wide receiver, stating:
“No disrespect to DeMario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte, but the Patriots are among the most receiver-needy teams in the league. GM Eliot Wolf would surely love to provide emerging quarterback Drake Maye with a high-caliber target. The real question is—would Wolf be willing to part with a second-round pick to make it happen?”
While the Patriots’ desire for an elite receiver is evident, it’s uncertain whether the Bears would be willing to move on from Moore, especially as they build their offense around rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.
Goldsher points out a potential concern regarding Moore’s impact:
“Trading away a high-level talent like D.J. Moore wouldn’t be an easy choice, but unless he can contribute to winning games—something he has yet to prove—it’s a discussion worth having. After all, the Bears’ top offensive priority in 2025 should be unlocking Caleb Williams’ full potential,” Goldsher explained.
“With a .384 career winning percentage, Moore might be a Charles Barkley-type player—a stat sheet stuffer who, for reasons we may never fully understand, hasn’t been able to push his teams to victory.”
Despite Moore’s impressive individual performances, his teams have struggled, compiling a 40-64 record throughout his career. While it may be unfair to judge him solely on team success in a sport reliant on multiple factors, it could influence Chicago’s decision-making process.
Now, Bears GM Ryan Poles must decide whether trading Moore would provide valuable draft capital to help shape the team’s future or if it would further deplete a roster that faced significant challenges in 2024. The outcome of this decision could play a crucial role in determining the Bears’ trajectory in the coming seasons.
