Watson’s season was cut short by a torn Achilles, but even before the injury, he struggled, leading fans to call for him to be benched. Unfortunately, his tenure with the Browns appears to be nearing its end, as the team seems unlikely to rely on him as their starting quarterback again.
Before the 2024 season, Watson faced troubling situations, including receiving death threats. Jason Lloyd of The Athletic revealed that in June, Watson’s agent, David Mulugheta, received an email threatening to shoot Watson or burn down his house. While police were notified, they were unable to identify the sender.
These kinds of incidents are deeply alarming. Regardless of Watson’s underwhelming performance since joining the Browns, death threats are completely unacceptable. Experiencing such hatred is both saddening and disturbing. While criticism of his on-field play is warranted, personal attacks and threats are entirely unjustified.
As the Browns prepare for the offseason, they are expected to pursue a new quarterback. Top prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft include Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward, while veteran options like Sam Darnold and Aaron Rodgers have been discussed.
It’s likely that Watson’s time as the Browns’ starting quarterback is over. Hopefully, the separation can occur in a respectful and professional manner. Although things haven’t worked out, the situation has become unnecessarily toxic and needs to be resolved maturely.
