The New England Patriots had another rough start in their Week 15 game, drawing a frustrated reaction from Jonathan Kraft.
At halftime, the Patriots trailed the Arizona Cardinals 13-3. While rookie quarterback Drake Maye completed all 10 of his pass attempts, the offense struggled, gaining just 89 yards on 24 plays and failing to convert a third down. Late in the second quarter, a second-down run by Antonio Gibson lost five yards.
Shortly after, CBS cameras captured Jonathan and Robert Kraft in a suite at State Farm Stadium. Jonathan appeared visibly displeased, gesturing toward the field and shaking his head as his father spoke. Many viewers speculated he mouthed the word “terrible.”
The 2024 season was meant to be a fresh start after a franchise-worst 4-13 record last year, which led to the difficult decision to replace legendary head coach Bill Belichick with Jerod Mayo. While the team showed promise with a Week 1 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, they’ve since dropped 10 of their last 12 games, ranking near the bottom of the league in both yards and points. Since Tom Brady’s departure, the Patriots’ offense hasn’t cracked the top 15 in total production.
On a positive note, Maye has shown potential in his rookie campaign. However, the team is already eliminated from playoff contention, leaving their once-dominant dynasty in rebuilding mode. Despite the struggles, Robert Kraft reportedly remains committed to Mayo, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. Kraft is said to have privately assured those around him that Mayo will have more time to adjust to the high-pressure role and grow as a leader.
While the Patriots have little left to play for this season, they’re still hoping to give the Krafts something to cheer about, starting with finding the end zone against Arizona.
