As the New England Patriots struggled to a 3-10 record, their former head coach, Bill Belichick, had remained mostly quiet.
However, in a recent episode of his Let’s Go! podcast, he shared his thoughts on the team’s challenges when asked by co-host Jim Gray.
Belichick acknowledged the Patriots’ ongoing struggles with consistency, saying, “They haven’t done enough to win very many games.” He highlighted issues in all areas—defense, offense, and special teams—pointing out that they are near the bottom in offensive rankings and have missed key field goals.
Belichick also noted that despite a bye week to regroup, it has been an inconsistent season, and they haven’t been able to win when it mattered.
Reflecting on his final season with the Patriots in 2023, which ended similarly with a 3-10 start and a 4-13 finish, he noted that the team’s problems persist, especially on offense.
While he did not mention quarterback Drake Maye, the rookie drafted to help turn things around, Belichick spoke more personally about his connection to the current team. “There are a lot of people there that I’m very close to,” he said, mentioning his son Brian, who still works as the team’s safeties coach.
He expressed sympathy for the players, particularly the defensive ones, acknowledging their hard work and dedication.
Despite feeling for them, he recognized the competitive nature of the NFL, where every team faces similar challenges in trying to compete at a high level.
