Despite the team’s struggles under first-year head coach Jerod Mayo, Wolf insists that Mayo remains the right leader for the job, emphasizing the franchise’s long-term rebuilding plans.
The Patriots, sitting near the bottom of the AFC standings after a string of disappointing performances, are a far cry from their former glory. However, Wolf believes it would be premature to make a change at head coach, citing the need for patience as the team transitions into a new era.
“Jerod is doing exactly what we need him to do right now,” Wolf said. “This is a rebuild, and with that comes growing pains. But his leadership, vision, and connection with the players are key to what we’re trying to build here.”
Rumors of a potential return for Bill Belichick have been fueled by the Patriots’ struggles, but Wolf dismissed the idea of revisiting past regimes. While Belichick remains a towering figure in the organization’s history, the team is focused on building a future where Mayo is given the time and resources to implement his vision.
Critics have pointed to the Patriots’ inconsistent play on both sides of the ball, particularly at quarterback, as evidence of Mayo’s inexperience. However, Wolf countered that rebuilding a roster takes time and that Mayo deserves at least another season to prove himself.
