Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers’ attorney claimed in court today that the woman accusing him of assault demanded $10.5 million, stating that this was “what the case is all about.”
However, the woman’s attorneys dispute this claim.
Attorneys Douglas H. Wigdor and David E. Gottlieb issued a statement refuting the allegation.
“As is standard practice, we do not comment on confidential settlement discussions,” the statement read.
“However, since Mr. Peppers’ lawyer raised this matter, we can clarify that his attorney requested a meeting to discuss a potential settlement and asked us to present a proposal.
Our proposal included an apology from Mr. Peppers, a financial contribution to a domestic abuse support organization, a commitment to intensive counseling, and compensation for our client’s pain and suffering. At no point did we propose $10.5 million to avoid a civil lawsuit, and the lawsuit seeks no specific amount beyond what a jury may decide.”
Peppers faces trial on January 22 for charges including assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a Class B substance believed to be cocaine.
Since his October arrest, Peppers has been placed on the commissioner’s exempt list and is unlikely to return this season.
The NFL is conducting its own investigation, and depending on the outcome, he may face disciplinary action during the 2025 season.
