The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback situation has been a mess this season.
Deshaun Watson struggled with inconsistent play before a season-ending Achilles injury, and Jameis Winston has delivered unpredictable performances since stepping in as the starter.
While Browns fans have been frustrated with the instability at such a critical position, former NFL player Shaun King believes the team has already “found their QB.” Speaking on The Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show, King said, “If you watched that game against the New Orleans Saints, you can’t tell me Jameis didn’t look like one of the top 15 quarterbacks in football. Forget the outcome.”
King highlighted Winston’s ability to elevate his teammates, noting that Jerry Jeudy looked like a dangerous deep threat and Elijah Moore played well enough to merit a new contract.
He also suggested that signing Winston to a deal similar to Gardner Minshew’s would allow the Browns to focus on strengthening other areas of the roster.
Winston had a strong showing against the Saints, completing 30 of 46 passes for 395 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers—a significant improvement after throwing three interceptions and taking six sacks in the previous game. Ball security was a key focus, and Winston delivered.
Though few are ready to call for Winston to be the Browns’ starter next season, his performances have been more positive than negative. He has added a level of explosiveness to the offense that Watson was unable to provide, sparking optimism about his potential fit with the team.
