On Tuesday, the New England Patriots bolstered their roster by signing linebacker Titus Leo from the Indianapolis Colts practice squad to their 53-man roster.
To accommodate the move, the team placed LB Curtis Jacobs on injured reserve and released LB Ochaun Mathis, creating the necessary roster space.
Titus Leo, a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Wagner College, has had an uphill journey in his NFL career. After being drafted by the Colts, Leo suffered an injury during training camp and was placed on injured reserve on August 29, 2023, sidelining him for his entire rookie season. He returned for the 2024 preseason, where he showed flashes of potential but ultimately didn’t make the Colts’ final roster. Indianapolis waived him before re-signing him to their practice squad.
According to Destin Adams, a reporter for A to Z Sports covering the Colts, Leo has raw talent and the potential to grow into a solid pro. “He looked noticeably stronger in this year’s training camp and had moments in the preseason that showcased why teams were interested in him during the draft,” Adams said. “He’s a raw player who just hasn’t had the chance to prove himself yet.”
Leo now has the opportunity to develop further and contribute to the Patriots’ defense, which has been improving steadily under head coach Jerod Mayo. His journey from injury to potential impact player highlights his perseverance and promise.
