Head Coach Confirms Patriots Sign One New While Releasing Two Others As chiefs Sign Former Patriots Second-Round Pick

Former New England Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton has joined the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad, as reported by multiple sources.

A former second-round pick, Thornton attracted interest from nearly a dozen teams but ultimately chose to sign with the reigning Super Bowl champions, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Thornton’s release from the Patriots over the weekend came as a surprise, considering his status as a second-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft.

However, across three seasons, he has appeared in only 28 games, starting 13, and has had a limited role this year with just six appearances and four catches for 47 yards.

With the Chiefs dealing with Rashee Rice’s knee injury, Thornton could have an opportunity to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. He’ll start by learning the playbook on the practice squad but might see an expanded role later in the season once he’s acclimated.

Meanwhile, the Patriots are relying on Kendrick Bourne and a younger group of receivers to support their offense and build a foundation for rookie quarterback Drake Maye. With Maye showing immense potential, the Patriots’ offense seems to be finding its rhythm.
