The Cleveland Browns extended head coach Kevin Stefanski’s contract this offseason, recognizing his success as a two-time NFL Coach of the Year over the past four seasons.
However, the NFL is a results-driven business, and Stefanski’s recent performance is under scrutiny. With the Browns sitting at 2-8 this season, questions about his future are mounting.
According to Browns insider Tony Grossi, the organization may be weighing its options, including the possibility of replacing Stefanski with former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel. Grossi shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he believes a decision regarding Vrabel, currently a consultant for the Browns, could be imminent. “Methinks Browns nearing a decision on Mike Vrabel,” Grossi wrote, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming game against the Pittsburgh Steelers for Stefanski’s future. “Life isn’t fair.”
Vrabel, who posted a 54-45 record over six seasons with the Titans, led the team to three consecutive playoff appearances starting in 2019.
He remained with the Titans until last season, when he was fired following a 6-11 campaign, his second straight losing season.
Stefanski, now in his fifth year with Cleveland, has compiled a 39-38 record and guided the Browns to multiple playoff appearances, including their only postseason victory since the franchise’s 1999 return.
As Grossi pointed out, the Browns’ next matchup against their AFC North rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, could be a pivotal moment for Stefanski’s tenure.
