The New England Patriots have plenty of reasons to feel optimistic about their future.
They currently have several promising young players on their roster, with rookie quarterback Drake Maye leading the way.
The team appears to be moving in a positive direction.
However, to make a real push in 2025, the Patriots will need to strengthen their roster. One priority area is the wide receiver position; they’ll need to bring in more offensive weapons for Maye, ideally adding a top-tier receiver.
David Latham from Last Word on Sports has recommended that New England consider trading for Chris Olave, the wide receiver from the New Orleans Saints.
Olave would be an appealing target, though his acquisition would depend on the cost.
In his article, Latham suggests that if the Patriots secure the No. 1 overall draft pick, as currently projected, they could offer it to the Saints in exchange for Olave and New Orleans’ first-round pick, currently expected to be the No. 5 pick.
This would allow the Patriots to move down a few spots while potentially acquiring a solid wideout.
The Patriots could also consider selecting Travis Hunter instead.
While Olave has shown potential, with 32 receptions for 400 yards and a touchdown across eight games this season, his consistency has raised some concerns. These issues might make New England hesitant to pursue a trade.
The offseason is likely to bring plenty of speculation around the Patriots, as they aim to build around Maye and take steps toward becoming a playoff contender.
