‘When asked when he’ll return’ Packers’ Brian Gutekunst drops the most encouraging MarShawn Lloyd injury update.

Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst recently shared an important update on rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd. The third-round pick has been sidelined since injuring his ankle in the Colts game and remains on injured reserve. Lloyd’s return would provide a much-needed lift, especially for quarterback Jordan Love and an offense competing for playoff positioning in the competitive NFC North.

When asked about Lloyd’s status, Gutekunst told Packers beat writer Matt Schneiderman that Lloyd is expected to come off IR “pretty soon here, hopefully.” This news is promising for a Packers team managing a few setbacks. Lloyd’s presence will add depth to Green Bay’s backfield, especially given recent injury concerns for Josh Jacobs, who has been outstanding this season and ranks third in league rushing yards. Beyond Jacobs, Green Bay has only one other running back with over 100 rushing yards.

While the offense currently ranks ninth in scoring, it will need more firepower after star cornerback Jaire Alexander’s recent knee injury. In the Packers’ recent 10-point loss to the Lions, the defense struggled without Alexander, as Lions QB Jared Goff completed 18 of 22 passes with a QBR of 89.0, well above his season average. Alexander’s absence in the secondary was noticeable, and his return timeline remains uncertain.

Ahead, Green Bay faces a series of winnable but challenging games. Their next four matchups include divisional road games against the Bears and Lions, with home games against the 49ers and Dolphins in between. The home games could be especially tough, with Christian McCaffrey returning for the 49ers and Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa regaining his form.

Currently 6-3, the Packers are third in the NFC North and seventh in the NFC. They hold a one-and-a-half game lead over the Bears, with two head-to-head matchups still remaining.

To secure a playoff spot and avoid missing the postseason for the second time in three years, getting the roster back to full strength will be essential for Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur.
