A recent addition from the Tennessee Titans’ 2021 draft class has arrived at Gillette Stadium.
As the NFL trade deadline passed at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, the New England Patriots announced that linebacker Monty Rice had joined their practice squad. Rice, a former Georgia Bulldog who earned first-team All-SEC honors, was selected by the Titans in the third round (92nd overall) under the leadership of GM Jon Robinson and coach Mike Vrabel. Over three seasons with Tennessee, Rice, 25, appeared in 35 games with 10 starts, amassing 128 tackles and two pass deflections.
His journey continued after the New Orleans Saints claimed him off waivers last December. Following the roster cutdown in August, the 6-foot, 233-pound linebacker spent time on the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad until his release in October. Altogether, he has accumulated 631 snaps on defense and 412 on special teams in his NFL career. To make room for Rice, the Patriots released rookie center Bryan Hudson from their practice squad.
Hudson, 23, initially joined New England’s scout team after attending the Detroit Lions’ training camp. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 301 pounds, Hudson was elevated to the active roster for a game against the Miami Dolphins last month, although he has yet to play in the regular season outside of preseason action. A versatile player, Hudson accumulated 41 starts in 60 games across center, guard, and tackle positions during his time at Virginia Tech and Louisville.
Additionally, the Patriots made other roster adjustments earlier Tuesday, waiving interior lineman Zachary Thomas from their 53-man roster and signing guard Tyrese Robinson off the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad.
