The New England Patriots are undoubtedly one of the most intriguing teams to watch as the NFL trade deadline approaches.
While many expect them to be sellers, there’s still a chance they might opt to add talent before the deadline, particularly at wide receiver or along the offensive line.
Adding more talent to support rookie quarterback Drake Maye would be a smart move.
As their quarterback of the future, protecting Maye is essential, leading to a suggested trade to secure a skilled offensive lineman. Cam Garrity of Patriots Wire proposed a deal to acquire Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Jack Conklin.
According to Garrity’s proposal, the Patriots would trade a 2025 third-round pick (via Atlanta) and a 2026 fifth-round pick for Conklin. “With Conklin, the Patriots could shift Mike Onwenu back to right guard, enhancing their run game on that side and strengthening the offensive line.
Conklin would serve as a trusted starting tackle while they develop Caedan Wallace as a future left or swing tackle.” Since Conklin is under contract through 2025, he would be more than just a one-year solution, potentially protecting Maye for another three to four years.
Given the struggles on their offensive line, Conklin would be a significant improvement.
New England shouldn’t focus solely on selling talent; buying talent is also worth considering. With the trade deadline fast approaching, it will be interesting to see the moves they decide to make.
If the right opportunity to address a key position arises, the Patriots should seize it.
