The Green Bay Packers’ defense can be perplexing at times. Despite having the most former first-round picks on defense across the NFL, Green Bay struggles to consistently limit opponents’ points.
Players like Jaire Alexander, Xavier McKinney, and Kenny Clark stand out across the field, yet the Packers rank only 13th in points allowed per game.
With this much talent, it’s surprising that one of the team’s key contributors has been veteran linebacker Eric Wilson, who, after three years with the Packers, recently earned a starting role.
Looking ahead, an early prediction for the 2025 offseason suggests Wilson may be on the move.
Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department projects that the eight-year veteran could sign with the Seattle Seahawks in free agency.
“Tyrel Dodson and Ernest Jones are impending free agents, so Seattle will have a need at linebacker this offseason.
However, the team is expected to start free agency with negative cap space, according to Over The Cap, so they’ll need a budget-friendly option,” the report states.
“Wilson has mostly been a backup in his career and will turn 31 in September, likely keeping his cost low. Still, he’s having a strong season in Green Bay, with a 74.8 run-defense grade and 85.1 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus.”
While Wilson has rarely been a starter—except for a season with the Minnesota Vikings in 2020—he’s taking full advantage of his opportunity with Green Bay.
This benefits the Packers now, but they might lose him in 2025.
Wilson’s latest contract was worth just over $1 million, and he’ll likely seek a raise. Although the Packers aren’t facing a financial crunch, they might let him leave, potentially setting up the anticipated Seattle move.
