The Pittsburgh Steelers are making a big splash on trade-deadline day with a move to strengthen their defense.
According to multiple reports, the Steelers have acquired edge rusher Preston Smith from the Green Bay Packers. ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed that Pittsburgh is sending a seventh-round draft pick to Green Bay in exchange for Smith.
This trade serves as a defensive depth move for the Steelers, but it’s a solid one. The 31-year-old Smith has been consistently productive, recording eight or more sacks in each of the past three seasons. He finishes his time with the Packers with 44 sacks over five-plus seasons and has 2.5 sacks so far this year.
This marks the Steelers’ second trade of the day, underscoring their commitment to making a playoff push and securing their first postseason victory since the 2016 season.
