With less than 48 hours until the NFL trade deadline, rumors are intensifying about players who might soon be available.
Following their drop to a 2-7 record, the Cleveland Browns are reportedly central to several potential trade discussions.
Most notably, ongoing rumors of talks between the Browns and Detroit Lions regarding DE Za’Darius Smith have reportedly progressed, with a deal now seemingly imminent.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio indicated during Cleveland’s Week 9 game against the Chargers that an agreement between the teams could be finalized any moment.
Smith avoided the media after the game, quickly exiting the locker room, and remarks from teammates seemed to lend credibility to Florio’s report.
Florio didn’t stop there. During his weekly segment on NBC’s Football Night in America before Sunday Night Football, he added another prominent Browns player to the list of potential trade candidates: Pro Bowl tight end David Njoku.
According to Florio, Njoku “could be available” for trade “at the right price.” It’s uncertain what that price might be.
A 2017 first-round pick, Njoku has become a fan favorite over his seven years in Cleveland, though inconsistent quarterback play has affected his production. This season, he has recorded 25 catches for 226 yards and two touchdowns.
Losing Njoku would be a tough loss for the Browns’ fanbase, who have come to appreciate his contributions.
