The New England Patriots are anticipated to be active ahead of the NFL trade deadline, with several players reportedly on the market, including defensive lineman Davon Godchaux, who was caught off guard by this news.
Dianna Russini from The Athletic reported that Godchaux is available for trade, naming the San Francisco 49ers as a possible destination.
The 49ers, currently struggling with a 4-4 record, have been one of the more disappointing teams this season, though injuries have played a significant role in their challenges.
They are actively seeking to strengthen their defense, and adding Godchaux could be beneficial for the reigning NFC champions.
Godchaux, 29, played college football at LSU and was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
After spending four seasons in Miami, he joined the Patriots in 2021. He had an impressive first year in New England with 65 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble, followed by 62 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 2022, and 56 tackles with a fumble recovery last season.
This year, he has recorded 29 tackles and has been reliable, missing no games during his time with the Patriots. Earlier in the season, he also called out his teammates for “selfish” play. It remains to be seen whether he will finish the season with New England.
