The New England Patriots won their second game of the season and their second under head coach Jerod Mayo last week, defeating the New York Jets 25–22 at Gillette Stadium.
But during the game, Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood smacked quarterback Drake Maye in the head on a scramble, dealing New England a severe blow. Maye was placed in concussion protocol and was not allowed to play the remainder of the game.
Sherwood was fined $6,354 by the NFL on Saturday afternoon for the hit’s needless roughness. Throughout the game, he was not penalized.
Although Maye didn’t play much this week, the Patriots declared that he is healthy enough to play in Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium.
I hope the hit doesn’t have any long-term ramifications and that Maye can carry on with his job as usual.
