The New England Patriots have already made one trade move, with more potential deals on the horizon.
Several teams have shown interest in Patriots players, but some, like cornerback Christian Gonzalez, are off-limits.
According to veteran insider Josina Anderson, multiple teams have inquired about Gonzalez, but New England has no intention of trading him. The team’s top pick from last year, Gonzalez is under contract through at least 2026, and his solid performance in 2024 confirms his role as a key piece in New England’s rebuilding efforts.
Gonzalez, the 17th overall pick, played only four games in his rookie season but has been a full-time starter this year, racking up 37 tackles, an interception, and four pass deflections. His coverage metrics, including a 57.1% completion rate and a 77.4 passer rating allowed, reflect his progress, making him central to the Patriots’ secondary plans.
While fellow cornerback Jonathan Jones will also stay with the team, other positions are more fluid as the trade deadline approaches, especially at wide receiver. The Patriots have been shopping Tyquan Thornton, though his low production may impact his trade value. Veteran receiver K.J. Osborn is another trade candidate, particularly as a pending free agent, though his return may be limited as well.
Mike Giardi of the Boston Sports Journal recently suggested that a wide receiver move is likely, with Osborn being the most probable to be dealt.
After seeing reduced playing time, Osborn expressed a desire for a trade, making him one of the Patriots’ most closely watched players. With a manageable salary of $1.18M, Osborn is an affordable option for many teams.
Though he has only 57 yards and a touchdown this season, his previous experience as a solid complementary receiver in Minnesota may attract buyers looking for depth.
Kendrick Bourne also out of the picture now as he’s a part of the project.
