The Green Bay Packers are set to face the Detroit Lions on November 3, with the top spot in the NFC North at stake.
The Packers have shown strong defensive performances, though they might consider a trade to bolster their pass rush.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano highlighted New York Giants pass rusher Azeez Ojulari as a possible trade target, generating interest among teams.
In response, FanSided’s Ryan Heckman suggested that the Packers should consider acquiring Ojulari to address their pass-rushing needs.
“If the Packers are looking to strengthen their pass rush, one potential target is fourth-year player Azeez Ojulari from the New York Giants,” Heckman noted.
Ojulari, who’s in the final year of his contract, has tallied 22 career sacks and recorded six this season despite playing just 55% of defensive snaps.
While the Packers as a team have managed 21 sacks, no single player has exceeded three. Given the Giants’ investment in Brian Burnes and Kayvon Thibodeaux, it’s unlikely they’ll extend Ojulari’s contract after this season.
“Recently, Ojulari has played with impressive intensity, likely aware of the trade discussions and aiming to secure a second contract,” Heckman wrote. “Adding him could be an ideal move for the Packers, potentially even positioning him for a long-term role in Green Bay.”
Although the Packers extended Rashan Gary’s contract last year, he hasn’t performed to expectations this season.
Meanwhile, Preston Smith, turning 32 this year, has shown signs of decline. If the Packers trade for Ojulari and sign him to an extension, he could become a core part of their future defensive lineup.
