When rookie quarterback Drake Maye went down in the first half, Jacoby Brissett stepped in to take charge.
At halftime, head coach Jerod Mayo highlighted the team’s “next man up” mentality, stating that they “need Jacoby to take us to the promised land.” Brissett delivered, leading the Patriots to a 25-22 win over the Jets.
“You lose Drake (Maye) early in the game. I thought Jacoby Brissett was ready to go,” said Mayo after the game. “Was it perfect? No. But I thought the operation was good, and he made some solid throws.”

“It’s tough to see Drake go down; you never want to see that. Hopefully, he’ll recover quickly. Jacoby’s a proven vet, a guy who’s been around and played a lot of football. He’s had to sit out the past few weeks, but he’s always prepared. Seeing him step up and lead a big drive was huge, and I was glad to compete with him out there.”

“It’s all about the next man up. We have to stay focused and play the full game. Drake [Maye] went down early, so there was plenty of time left to get the win. I think we did a great job of trusting Jacoby [Brissett] and believing in AVP to secure the victory.”
