Packers head coach Matt LaFleur expressed significant concern regarding Jordan Love’s groin injury following Sunday’s victory over the Jaguars, according to Ian Rapoport.
The team intends to assess Love’s condition in the next few days, but it seems likely that he may miss their Week 9 matchup against the Lions.
Love sustained the injury while trying to scramble during the first half of the game.
Malik Willis took over for Love and successfully led the team on a game-winning drive. The Packers have won all three games in which Willis has played, indicating their confidence in him should they need to rest Love. Love, 25, was a three-year starter at Utah State and received All-Mountain West honors in his last two seasons. The Packers traded up with the Dolphins to select him 26th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.
He was in the final year of his four-year, $12,383,451 rookie contract, which included a $6,566,146 signing bonus, when the Packers signed him to a one-year, $13.5 million extension instead of exercising his fifth-year option.
In August, the Packers signed Love to a record-breaking four-year, $220 million contract.
Before today’s game, Love had played in five games for the Packers, completing 61.1 percent of his passes for 1,351 yards, with 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
