The Cleveland Browns are likely to be significant sellers as the NFL trade deadline approaches. They’ve already traded Amari Cooper, and there are even rumors about Myles Garrett being on the block.
While a trade involving Garrett seems improbable, these rumors suggest that the Browns may consider moving several players in the coming weeks.
Could cornerback Denzel Ward be among them?
Bradley Locker from Pro Football Focus thinks so and has suggested a trade that would send Ward to the Washington Commanders.
“The Browns have already traded Cooper, but there’s still a wealth of talent on the roster—especially given their 1-6 record and struggling offense, there’s little chance of contending,” Locker noted. “This could make some of Cleveland’s talented defenders, including Ward, available.” Although the Commanders’ passing defense has improved this season, they still need assistance at cornerback, and Ward is one of the best in the league. At 27, he leads the NFL with 12 passes defended this season.
Ward is a highly appealing trade target for the Browns because he is signed through 2027, allowing Cleveland to demand a substantial return. A competing team may be willing to pay that price.
As a three-time Pro Bowler, Ward has had some injury issues throughout his career but has never played fewer than 12 games in a season.
If the Browns decide to completely overhaul their roster, Ward could be on the move.
