The Green Bay Packers are having a strong season as a team, but that doesn’t guarantee that all individual players are thriving.
The NFL is a results-driven league, and no matter where a player was drafted or how much potential they showed, if they’re not performing, teams will quickly look for replacements. This might be the case for one Packers lineman in particular.
Josh Myers, the Packers’ center who was picked in the second round in 2021, has not lived up to his potential from his time at Ohio State. The 26-year-old is set to become a free agent after this season, and it seems increasingly unlikely that the Packers will re-sign him.
This creates a gap in Green Bay’s offensive line, and speculation has already started on who might step in. Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department predicted that Carolina Panthers center Austin Corbett could replace Myers as the Packers’ center in 2025.
“Although Corbett is primarily a guard, he transitioned to center this season after the Panthers signed high-priced free agents Damian Lewis and Robert Hunt,” the authors noted. “However, Corbett did suffer a season-ending biceps injury, so his availability will depend on how he recovers.”
Corbett, who won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 before joining the Panthers, was having a strong season with eight points saved in five games before his injury.
Replacing Myers with the more experienced and productive Corbett could be a crucial move for the Packers’ Super Bowl aspirations in 2025. Although this season isn’t over yet, the Packers’ championship window seems to be widening.
