Browns receiver Amari Cooper is experiencing the slowest start of his career, with just five catches for 27 yards in the first two games.
“I just need to play better,” Cooper stated this week. “I try not to focus on small details, but I know I have to perform at my best and meet my own standards. I haven’t done that in the past couple of weeks.”
Cooper has received 17 targets, but he’s dropped four of the 12 passes he didn’t catch, compared to just seven drops last season. One of those drops cost him a potential touchdown against the Jaguars.
“It’s frustrating because you want to showcase your best football early on,” he said. “But it is what it is. I need to refocus and get back to my game.”
Both quarterback Deshaun Watson and offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey have expressed their confidence in Cooper, and he seems to feel the same way about himself. Now, it’s time for him to translate that confidence into performance on the field.
