In Week 2, the New England Patriots suffered significant losses on defense, with inside linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley and edge rusher Oshane Ximines both going down during their game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Bentley exited before halftime due to a shoulder injury.
Initially listed as questionable to return, he has since been ruled out for the rest of the game.
In Bentley’s absence, Raekwon McMillan will take over at inside linebacker alongside Jahlani Tavai. Bentley, who has started 67 of 82 games for New England and played all but one game in the past three seasons, recorded 12 tackles and 0.5 sacks in Week 1.
Ximines left the game in the third quarter with a knee injury and is initially considered questionable to return.
His injury means the Patriots are short on edge rusher depth behind Josh Uche. With only three edge rushers on the roster, Ximines’s absence leaves the team with a significant gap for the remainder of the game.
Ximines, who joined the Patriots this offseason and had one tackle in the season opener, spent his first five NFL seasons with the New York Giants.
