A woman accusing Deshaun Watson of sexual assault may meet with the NFL within the next two weeks, according to her lawyer.
Tony Buzbee, who represents the woman in a civil lawsuit filed in Houston, stated that his client, who alleges Watson committed sexual assault and battery, will soon have a conversation with the league. Buzbee, who has previously represented other women in similar cases against Watson, also mentioned having a video and two additional witnesses.
Watson, who served an 11-game suspension in 2022 over earlier allegations, could face further disciplinary action if he failed to disclose this new incident during previous league investigations. The alleged incident occurred in 2020.
The lawsuit, filed by the woman identified as “Jane Doe,” claims Watson sexually assaulted her for several minutes during a dinner date at her apartment. Despite the new allegations, the Browns have continued to support Watson, who is scheduled to start against Jacksonville on Sunday. Coach Kevin Stefanski has not considered benching Watson due to the severity of the new claims. Watson has strongly denied the allegations and expressed surprise at the lawsuit.
Watson is expected to speak with the league’s investigators eventually but has not considered the possibility of another suspension. He emphasized his focus on preparing for the game against Jacksonville rather than on potential league actions.
The Browns traded three first-round picks to the Texans for Watson, who initially declined Cleveland’s offer before accepting a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract.
