Regardless of how it turns out, the 2024 season is set to be exciting for the Green Bay Packers.
Following a 6-2 finish and a surprising playoff appearance last season, the Packers seem ready to vie for a conference title this year. They secured quarterback Jordan Love, a crucial piece of their future.
The Packers have also equipped Love with offensive talent, especially considering the departure of star receiver Davante Adams in 2022.
Although Green Bay’s receiving corps is young, it’s also deep and versatile. However, one NFL writer suggests the Packers might seek additional star power through a trade.
On Wednesday, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report named the Packers as one of two potential destinations for Cleveland Browns receiver Amari Cooper, who is ranked 10th on Knox’s “trade block big board.”
“Amari Cooper is the top receiver on the board based on talent and recent performance,” Knox noted. “Cooper would be a great acquisition for a contender like the Green Bay Packers that lacks a proven No. 1 receiver.”
While Cooper would undoubtedly enhance the Packers, Knox pointed out that this trade isn’t imminent. However, if the Browns fall out of contention or see an opportunity to improve their roster elsewhere, Cooper could become available.
At 30, Cooper is coming off his best season yet as a 10th-year veteran, amassing a career-high 1,250 receiving yards despite inconsistent quarterback play, and setting a franchise record with 265 yards in a single game against the Houston Texans.
If Cooper took on the top receiver role in Green Bay, he could potentially elevate the performance of the Packers’ other receivers. Christian Watson (a big-play threat), Jayden Reed (a speedy slot receiver), and Romeo Doubs (a reliable option) might all reach their full potential in the Green Bay offense.
Is it too soon to speculate about a Packers-Cooper connection? With the NFL’s increasing player movement, it might not be too early at all. If the Browns see value in trading Cooper, the Packers could be well-positioned to benefit.
