Jordan Love reveals what he really thinks of Jalen Hurts ahead of the Packers-Eagles game

In a draft class featuring three quarterbacks selected in the top 10, Jordan Love and Jalen Hurts were almost overlooked. Love was chosen by the Green Bay Packers near the end of the first round, while Hurts went to the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round. Initially expected to serve as backups and developmental players, both have since proven themselves as top-tier starters, securing significant contracts in the process.

On Friday, Love and Hurts will lead the Packers and Eagles in the first NFL game ever held in Brazil. Ahead of the matchup in São Paulo, Love shared his thoughts on Hurts. “I’ve been around him a few times,” Love said. “He’s a phenomenal player. I admire the way he carries himself and his approach to the game.”

Love spoke about how Hurts’ attitude on the field and his game preparation inspire him. “He’s just a dog,” Love added. “He’s one of those quarterbacks who will scramble and won’t slide, willing to take hits. And he’s a bigger guy. His mindset is competitive, and he’s been a strong leader since his rookie year. I love watching him play.”

Different Situations
While the Packers had a planned transition from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love, Jalen Hurts faced a different scenario in Philadelphia. When the Eagles drafted Hurts, they had recently extended Carson Wentz’s contract.

However, as Wentz’s performance declined, Hurts got an opportunity to start four games in his rookie season. By 2021, his second NFL season, he became the full-time starter.

Although Hurts had a strong 2022 season, his career has seen fluctuations—his passer ratings over the years are 77.6, 87.2, 101.5, and 89.1, despite also contributing significantly as a runner.

Packers Defense
A key aspect of the game in Brazil will be how the Packers’ defense plans to contain Hurts. This will be the first game with defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley at the helm.

Hafley, known for his preference for single-high safety defenses from his time in both college and the NFL, seems well-suited to counter a running quarterback like Hurts. However, defensive coordinators with similar backgrounds, like Robert Saleh and DeMeco Ryans, have shown a willingness to adapt and use two-high safety coverages, which might be necessary given Hurts’ proficiency with deep throws.
