“He is a strong candidate to re-join us” Cornerback clears waivers, opening door for potential return to Patriots

The New England Patriots managed to keep three of the four players they released on Wednesday amid several roster changes. It now seems likely that the fourth player will also be brought back.

Cornerback Isaiah Bolden, who was cut along with wide receiver Jalen Reagor, offensive lineman Michael Jordan, and defensive tackle Trysten Hill, went unclaimed on the waiver wire. There is strong speculation that he will rejoin the other three on the Patriots’ practice squad soon.

Bolden, 24, was drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound player, who had a college career split between Florida State and Jackson State, was competing for a backup role during his rookie training camp.

However, he missed the entire season after being injured in a preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, which resulted in a concussion and the suspension of that game. As a result, Bolden was sidelined for the rest of his rookie year.

He made a comeback this spring and performed well over the summer, serving as a key backup in the slot and a versatile special teams player. He played 67 defensive snaps and 23 special teams snaps in three preseason games.

Although Bolden initially made the Patriots’ 53-man roster, he was waived following additional waiver claims. Now that he has passed through the waiver wire, the Patriots have four open spots on their practice squad, and Bolden is a strong candidate to fill one of them.
