As he begins his first season in Foxborough, head coach of the New England Patriots Jerod Mayo does not have a lot of outstanding offensive talent at his disposal. In fact, he might not even have any.
His goal is to maintain the happiness of any gifted playmakers he may have, which is why he is praising running back Rhamondre Stevenson.
Stevenson’s rookie contract is about to expire, but negotiations for a new one have not advanced. But Mayo is making sure Stevenson understands how much he is valued.
“Well, we’ll see.” According to Nick Shook of NFL.com, Mayo stated, “I will say this about Rhamondre.” “He’s without a doubt one of the better backs in the league, in my opinion. I believe that he has had some difficulty getting started for the past few years. I’m eager to watch what he accomplishes this season. And let’s face it—he deserves all that he has. He is our starting running back, so maybe we can accomplish something with him.
In 2024, Stevenson is expected to get a base salary of $3.1 million.
How long should Rhamondre Stevenson play for the Patriots?
The University of Oklahoma football player Stevenson was chosen by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
He had a respectable first season, averaging 4.6 yards per carry while rushing for 606 yards and five touchdowns. Then, Stevenson blossomed in 2022, amassing 1,040 yards and five touchdowns at a strong five yards per attempt. In addition, he caught 69 passes for 421 yards and a touchdown.
Going into his third season, the 26-year-old seemed to be a rising star, but last year he only managed 619 yards and four touchdowns, with a pitiful four yards per carry. As a pass-catcher, he caught 38 passes for 238 yards, although his output also decreased.
It should be mentioned that Stevenson’s 2023 injury schedule only allowed him to play in 12 games; yet, even in his healthy seasons.
