Foxborough’s available roster position has been taken. Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 was the first to report that undrafted wide receiver David Wallis was signed by the New England Patriots on Monday.
In May, the Division III Randolph-Macon College product went to rookie minicamp as a tryout. Now that the third week of organized team workouts has begun, he is back at Gillette Stadium. Wallis, who is classified as 5-foot-11 and 183 pounds, caught 53 passes for the Ashland, Virginia, 13-1 Yellow Jackets last autumn.
This was accomplished by the fifth-year senior while he led the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in receiving yards (957) and finished second with 12 touchdowns. Wallis, a former participant in the College Gridiron Showcase, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds, according to reports.
Wallis’ 34 receiving touchdowns set a school record in 2022, when he led the ODAC with 1,189 yards and 13 touchdowns out wide. Throughout his career, he averaged 21.5 yards per catch.
In addition, during the course of 42 games, there were 18 carries for 127 yards and 22 kickoff returns for 442 yards.
In parallel, the Patriots dismissed offensive tackle Andrew Stueber, a former seventh-round pick out of Michigan. With defensive end Jotham Russell joining as a member of the NFL’s International Player Pathway program, the team will have 91 players on the roster come June.
