In New England, Kendrick Bourne hopes to catch up with a former teammate.
Social media began to buzz on Sunday morning with allegations that standout wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers had requested a trade. And Bourne instantly turned to social media upon seeing this.
“Let’s get em, @Patriots! You’re hitting all the objectives you want! “he commented on Twitter’s former platform, X. As it happens, Aiyuk hasn’t asked for a move. In response to the rumor, Ryan Williams, his agent, wrote on X, “You need better sources.”
After making it plain that he intended to rejoin the Patriots, Bourne and the team worked out a contract in March. He wants the squad to add as many elite players as possible now that he’s back.
Hence, the wide receiver is currently acting as the general manager.
And in the last week, he has made two attempts to recruit Aiyuk.
It was during Aiyuk’s debut season in 2020 when the two spent time together. Aiyuk has ended the last two seasons with more than 1,000 yards every year, thus the Patriots need a top offensive weapon. In New England, that talent would undoubtedly be appreciated.
The 49ers have stated that they have no plans to trade Aiyuk and that they plan to sign him to a long-term contract.
However, never say never.
Perhaps in the end, Bourne’s efforts will prove fruitful.
