Howard Webb has tried to provide an explanation for why Liverpool weren’t awarded a penalty in their crunch Premier League conflict with Manchester City earlier this month.
The Reds had already netted from the spot to stage the recreation when Jeremy Doku raised his boot into the chest of Alexis Mac Allister attempting to win the ball. The incident was once waved off through Michael Oliver, and VAR agreed with the on-field decision.
Webb explained: “I assume it is one of these for certain if the referee offers it on the field, it would have been a ‘Check complete’ by way of the VAR.
