Tannehill is expected to enter free agency in the coming weeks, and although he is certainly not the same quarterback as many years ago, he could still be a potential stopgap for new england. Tannehill was even referred to as “prime jimmy garoppolo,” according to benjamin, referring to garoppolo’s run to the super bowl with the san francisco 49ers in the 2019-20 season. It could have been a more fitting comparison for tannehill in four or five years ago, rather than at the present time.
Tannehill is coming off of a 2023 season in which he played in ten games and eight starts for the tennessee titans before being benched in favour of will levis. Tannehill completed 64.8 percent of his passes and posted a passer rating of 78.5 during his time on the field this year. he carried for 1,616 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions. The 35-year-old has spent the last five seasons with the titans, and he made the pro bowl in 2019, throwing 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six picks while also completing 70.3 percent of his throws, putting up a league-high passer rating of 117.5 in 12 appearances and ten starts.
Tannehill then had the best season of his career, throwing 3,819 yards, 33 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, completing 65.5 percent of his passes and tying a 106.5 passer rating. Since then, the texas a&m product has steadily declined, and at this stage in his career, he is probably nothing more than a reliable backup. However, if the pats can’t find other options at quarterback, tannehill could be a good option to consider.
