When it comes to the quarterback position, the pittsburgh steelers’ first option this offseason is to re-sign mason rudolph, bringing back the veteran to compete with kenny pickett for the starting job. However, there have been reports that rudolph is expected to make a really big bid elsewhere. Not everyone agrees that it is true. Gerry dulac of the pittsburgh post-gazette said in his weekly interview that there will be no “bidding war” for rudolph’s services this offseason. If he wants to return to pittsburgh, he will. If he doesn’t, he won’t play, but only because of where he wants to play. “no, it’s more likely he’ll return because the steelers want him to return.”
To your point, i wouldn’t rule out him signing elsewhere, but i would caution that there isn’t going to be a bidding war for his services or that he’s going to be offered some sort of outlandish offer,” dulac wrote. “fans are guessing rudolph will return,” the question read. Isn’t it more likely that he would be offered a better deal from another team?” Rudolph didn’t make it to pro football focus’ top 150 free agents list, and dulac isn’t the first steelers insider to say he won’t be paid what some national reports suggest he will. Rudolph needs no “fresh start” elsewhere, according to mark kaboly of the athletic.
If he finds a better opportunity to play on another team, he’ll sign. Otherwise, he’ll return to the steelers and try to beat pickett. The steelers haven’t held back from re-signing rudolph. They will most likely not have the opportunity to do so until free agency begins, but a return to pittsburgh seems more likely as time passes.
