The pittsburgh steelers have made two changes to their coaching staff, changing the role of one offensive assistant and employing an outsider. Former quarterbacks coach mike sullivan’s role has been promoted to senior offensive assistant, according to the team’s website. Pittsburgh will keep sullivan as their new qb coach after he was hired by tom arth, but will have expanded his role by keeping an experienced coach on their staff. Sullivan held two offensive coordinator positions outside of the team, meeting with the las vegas raiders and new orleans saints, but did not get recruited for either position. His friendship with kenny pickett will help the young quarterback make it to the playoffs. Phil matusz has been hired by the steelers as their strength and conditioning coach.
For the past four years, matusz has been boston college’s head strength and conditioning coach. He was the assistant conditioning coach at ohio state for six seasons before joining bc. With the two moves, pittsburgh is narrowing their gap this offseason. Since losing both of them this year, they could look to recruit another strength and conditioning coach. Since gerald alexander left for the las vegas raiders, they may also be in the market for an assistant defensive backs coach.
