What the patriots’ offense will be like once they return to the field in the fall is one of the many concerns about their first season without head coach bill belichick. Rhamondre stevenson, a running back, has one suggestion for alex van pelt, who will replace him. During the 2024 season, he wants to be the go-to back in all phases of the offense. Stevenson said, via nicole yang of the boston globe, “i want to be the featured back for the patriots.” Stevenson missed five games in 2023 due to injury, but in 2022 he showed an ability to play as a runner and passer.
While playing in all 17 games that season, he ran for 1,040 yards at five yards per carry and caught 69 passes. Stevenson’s need for a clear leadership role may be impacted by contractual issues, as well as any football considerations. He’s entering the final year of his contract, and the opportunity to do a good job would be beneficial to his bid for a second contract in new england or elsewhere.
