The Buffalo Bills have named DJ MANGAS their offensive quality control coach, officially promoting him to the team’s coaching ranks. Mangas joined Buffalo’s coaching staff during the team’s bye week for the 2023 NFL season after Joe Brady was named interim offensive coordinator. With Brady as the interim OC and without a true quarterbacks coach, the team saw an opportunity to bring Mangas in as an offensive assistant. Although not given an official title, it was an opportunity for Mangas to unofficially join the Bills coaching ranks.
This decision paid off for DJ MANGAS.Prior to joining the Bills last season, Mangas served as the offensive coordinator/tight ends coach for the University at Buffalo football program. However, their relationship dates back to their playing days at William & Mary (W&M) (2008-2011). At W&M, Mangas was a starter who played receiver and emergency quarterback for the Tribe.DJ MANGAS has a very diverse coaching history spanning 12 years, primarily at the collegiate level. Mangas started as the program’s quarterbacks coach at Hampden-Sydney before leaving for Georgetown to coach the Hoya quarterbacks in 2013 (2012). Mangas returned to William & Mary as the Tribe’s running backs coach (2014-2016).
Mangas was promoted to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at W&M (2017-2018).In 2019, Mangas left to become an offensive analyst at LSU, and a year later he took his first step into the NFL as an assistant coach for the Carolina Panthers (2020). Mangas is scheduled to return to LSU as the passing game coordinator for the 2021 college football season. In 2022, Mangas joined the UCF Knights football program as a defensive analyst. That was his only opportunity on that side of the ball in his career.
In 2023, Mangas landed with the Bulls football program in Buffalo, New York and the University at Buffalo as the team’s offensive coordinator/head coach. After the Bulls season, Mangas joined the Bills Drive One, an opportunity that eventually led to his promotion as the full-time head coach of the Buffalo Bills beginning in the 2024 NFL season.
