It was reported not long after new England patriots owner robert kraft and head coach bill Belichick “mutually” decided to split ways in january that Belichick “never believed brady would leave” the club as a free agent following the 2019 NFL season. Brady seemed to have a different view of the situation about four years ago.
Brady talked about his exit from new england for apple TV’s “the dynasty” documentary, which will have its first two episodes on friday, according to chad graff of the athletic. Graff, who was able to film the documentary for an early review, said that the film “feels like a referendum on how bad the brady-belichick relationship got and why it never had a storybook ending with the two riding off together into the sunset.” Former new england wide receiver wes welker “compared brady to an abused dog” who goes back to work for belichick in the film.
Tom brady sr., the seven-time super bowl champion’s father, revealed earlier this winter that patriots owner robert kraft admitted to “making a mistake” in not giving brady the type of deal he wished for after the 2019 season. Brady signed with the tampa bay buccaneers in march 2020 and guided them to a super bowl title in his first season with the club.
Me and coach Belichick, we did what we loved and competed for 20 years together,” Brady said during a segment. “But I wasn’t going to sign another contract (in New England) even if I wanted to play until (I was) 50. Based on how things had gone, I wasn’t going to sign up for more of it.”
Brady and Belichick won six Super Bowl titles from 2000 to January 2020. Graf said the former New England players and Kraft described “a bad work environment and a bad atmosphere at team headquarters” in the final days of the Brady relationship – Belichick.
Twenty years is a long time for two men to work together, but some Patriots fans wonder what would have happened if the club had missed the playoffs three times in four years after Brady’s departure and before Belichick was employed by Kraft. . .
