Arthur smith, the new pittsburgh steelers offensive coordinator, has confirmed that the team will be playing with kenny pickett as quarterback next season.
Smith discussed pickett during his first interview since joining the steelers, when he was discussing what his future would be like. Smith told missi matthews of pittsburgh’s official team website, “there’s got to be a bond between me and kenny.” “and that’s why the play caller and the quarterback are so important. The quarterback is certainly the one out there between the white lines, and there is a sense of security that will be built every day, and it goes both ways.
As we build this offense and all the things we want to work on, i’ve got to earn kenny’s trust and vice versa. “while smith’s words don’t necessarily mean that pickett will be the starting quarterback in 2024, they do indicate that he is the one to win the championship right now.” Pickett is entering his third nfl season and hasn’t sparked much enthusiasm.
He made 12 starts this season, throwing for 2,070 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions while passing for 62 percent of his passes and a passer rating of 81.4. The 25-year-old was hospitalized in the second half of the season after suffering an ankle injury, but was scheduled to return later this season.
Instead, pickett was dropped in favour of mason rudolph, who led the steelers to the playoffs, and it has fueled rumors that the steelers will be looking for another quarterback this offseason.
In the coming months, it’s entirely possible that the steelers will continue to upgrade under center. They may go after russell wilson. They might make a game for justin fields. In the draft, they could also trade up for a quarterback. Arthur smith seems to be committed to kenny pickett as of now, all of which is said and done. Then again, he may not have much of a choice at the moment.
