The new england patriots may be devoid of talent on offense, but with the addition of offensive coordinator alex van pelt, the team is taking steps to rectify that.
Although the AFC east bottom-dwellers have the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, there are free agents set to be signed in march that could help van pelt’s system get off to a start when the new season begins. Not all of them will be too costly either. Jamal agnew weapons. The patriots are in dire need of weapons on the field that can move the ball with ease.
Agnew isn’t a top free-agent receiver, but his running and route-running skills could be a huge help for an offense that will need a rookie quarterback at some point next season. He’ll also be cheap as compared to other free agency wideouts like tee higgins or mike evans.
Curtis samuel i think a good outsider like samuel would be helpful if the patriots need more than just one receiver. Sure, the team has a lot of big wideouts who have done almost nothing since coming to foxboro, but samuel is a veteran who the pats certainly lack.
Ryan Tannehill the only way to integrate a rookie quarterback into a franchise is to have a strong veteran behind him or to simply start in front of him early on. Patrick mahomes, lamar jackson, jalen hurts, brock purdy, and jordan love all went through it. In the last two seasons, they’ve all been to the super bowl or won a playoff game. Signing a veteran like ryan tannehill would make a lot of sense for new england because it would allow the newcomer to develop behind a good leader and set themselves up for success.
Is there a shortage of running backs for the patriots? Sure. but it’s not impossible. Could pollard be used in the passing game more effectively than any other free-agent running back? Yes. Pollard is a year after his acl surgery, which means he should be close to 100%, which isn’t possible until 2023.
Although the cowboys are mulling over new ideas for their rb room, the patriots could just take a flyer out on one of the hottest free agents this offseason. Mekhi becton is a quarterback for the patriots. both of the patriot’s starting tackles are free agents, so reshaping the position might not be a bad idea.
Becton may be a disappointment as a former first-round pick who couldn’t recover, but he did have some solid playing time last season, his first full season in three seasons. He could be a good swing tackle that the pats use and expect to convert into a regular type of starter.
