The Green Bay Packers are losing their coaching staff. Senior analyst Tim Lester, the former head coach at Western Michigan, will remain with the Packers as Iowa’s offensive coordinator.
The news was first reported by 247 Sports. Lester is the first coach to leave the Packers this season and the third change on the coaching staff.
Previously, defensive coordinator Joe Barry and strength and conditioning coordinator Chris Gizzi were fired by coach Matt LaFleur. Tim Lester has a long history as a college offensive line coach. He was fired in 2022 after six seasons at Western Michigan and joined the Packers as a senior analyst, working with the defense and bringing an offensive perspective to the defense.
That’s what Matt LaFleur likes to do. Lester has one year left in Green Bay, but John Donovan is a senior defensive tackle in 2022. Donovan also spent one season with the Packers as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach two years later at the University of Washington. He is currently a senior offensive analyst at Florida State University. In 2022, the Packers hired Detroit Lions coach and passing game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant. In Green Bay, he worked as a senior offensive analyst, hoping to add a different perspective.
This year, he left to become the defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams.
The new coaching staff didn’t change the Packers offense or special teams. On defense, Barry was the only shot. It is unclear who will remain on the coaching staff, but is expected to be decided once a defensive coordinator is named. Don’t be surprised if Matt LaFleur brings back a veteran coaching expert.
