It’s unusual for a fumble recovery to be praised by everyone. Eric wilson deserved it.
When the green bay packers linebacker made one of the biggest plays of a divisional round playoff match against the san francisco 49ers, he was hustling behind a long kickoff return. In the third quarter, the 49ers had just taken a 14-13 lead when keisean nixon broke through a long kickoff return into 49ers territory. Nixon was hit and fumbled when he crossed the field. It was raining and the ball was slippery.
Wilson’s performance was even more impressive because of it. Wilson came out of nowhere at full speed, securing the ball and securing it for a crucial recovery, as the ball was on the ground and packers fans were in a total panic. The 49ers would have a fumble if wilson wasn’t running full speed to follow the ball. But he was hustling and the packers stayed in possession. Green bay scored a few plays later to take the lead. San francisco came back to win, 24-21, but that didn’t detract from wilson’s performance.
Wilson has played in the nfl for seven seasons with four different clubs. Since 2020, he has only played two games on defense. This season, the packers’ defense didn’t start any games. But he made one of the biggest plays in a postseason game on saturday night by sticking with the strategy all the way to the end.
