After leaving the new england patriots earlier this month, atlanta decided to name raheem morris, the rams’ defensive coordinator, rather than belichick.
With the addition of new head coaches by the tennessee titans, carolina panthers, and los angeles chargers in the last 48 hours, there are only two positions open. however, according to the athletic, belichick is “a long shot” to be hired by the washington commanders or the seattle seahawks.
The washington commanders are now searching for a replacement after ron rivera was sacked as head coach. Belichick was expected to attract a lot of attention this offseason after leaving new england, but teams have instead sought out replacement coaches. Six of the eight head coaching positions that were open this offseason have now been filled.
Dave canales was signed by the carolina panthers, jim harbaugh joined the los angeles chargers, and brian callahan was signed by the tennessee titans. Following the selection of jerod mayo as belichick’s replacement in new england and antonio pierce’s victory over the las vegas raiders, other players are now available, including mike vrabel, aaron glenn, ben johnson, mike macdonald, ejiro evero, dan quinn, and bobby slowik.
Belichick and the patriots parted ways after 24 seasons with a 4-13 record. In addition to his 296 regular season and postseason victories, he guided the patriots to six super bowl victories, nine afc championships, 17 afc east titles, and more. Belichick, who turns 72 on april 16, is just 15 victories behind don shula’s record as the nfl’s all-time winningest coach.
