In the hopes of finding a defensive coordinator, the new England patriots are casting a large net.
According to NFL network’s Ian Rapoport, the new coach to interview with the organization for the coveted position is michael hodges, a new orleans saints assistant. In 2011, hodges, 37, began his career at his alma mater texas a&m.
He returned to Fresno State the following year to serve as a graduate assistant. he began coaching linebackers in 2014, and he held it until his promotion to co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach in 2016. In the same year as current patriots defensive line coach demarcus covington, he co-coached the panthers’ defense.
After one year in office, hodges made the leap to the nfl. Hodges was promoted to assistant linebackers coach in 2019 after his colleague was hired as a coaching assistant in new England.
He worked with that position group for the past four years.
Demario davis was voted second-team all-pro in four seasons and to the pro bowl once under his tutelage. Hodges is the third candidate to speak with jerod mayo, the patriots’ new head coach.
The position of defensive coordinator is open. Carolina panthers outside linebackers coach Tem lukabu and Denver Broncos defensive backs coach christian parker are among those on the list.
