Bill O’Brien will leave new england to take over as ohio state’s new offensive coordinator, according to an ESPN rumor published late thursday night.
Under O’Brien, the patriots finished second in the league last season, with an average of 13.9 points per game.
In addition, O’Brien coached the quarterbacks, guiding mac jones from being a starting quarterback in his third season to a benched quarterback for the final six games of the season.
Although o’brien was hired in january of last year, the offense that had collapsed under matt patricia and joe judge, the previous primary offensive coordinators, continued to deteriorate under his leadership in 2022. O’brien’s offensive staff also suffered a lot of stress: adrian klemm, the first-year offensive line coach, missed much of the season due to a medical injury, and one assistant left for syracuse in the middle of the season. O’brien leaves the team, while jerod mayo, the team’s new head coach, works to reassemble the coaching staff in his first season.
When asked if he would launch an offensive coordinator search, mayo declined to comment at his inaugural press conference.
There are no recognizable internal contenders to take O’Brien’s article. Mayo said, “everything is still being considered.” it is clear that the people with whom i have been working are not the ones i would have chosen.
