Roberto Firmino’s time in Saudi Arabia could come to an end in six months, with the former Liverpool striker “set to leave Al Ahly” in January.
Firmino got off to a great start for his current employers, scoring a hat-trick on his debut, but failed to score in his next nine league games and was restricted to six substitute appearances thereafter.
With the 32-year-old captaining Al Ahly in each of their opening 10 Saudi Arabian Pro League matches, it is surprising that Firmino has now fallen out of the limelight and is content with cameo appearances. The 2019 Champions League winner is clearly unhappy with his current performances.
The aim is to resolve the issue when the transfer market opens next week. Football365 claim the Brazilian wants to return to Europe or even get the chance to play for his country.
According to the Daily Mirror, a move to Saudi Arabia is possible if Liverpool heroes Al Fateh and Al Etifah are interested in a deal. The latter is, of course, managed by Steven Gerrard, who brought former Reds Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum to his club.
Regarding the possibility of Firmino joining, Gerrard recently said: “I know Bobby very well, I’m a big fan and I’ve been following him for years.
It is very difficult for me to say anything about this situation because he is currently a player at Al-Ahli. But I loved Bobby Firmino from the first day I saw him and I’m a big fan.”Al-Ettifaq have made a slow start to the Saudi Professional League season and are 26 points behind leaders Al-Hilal after 18 matches.
